Here is a preview of her in the First Step Fascia Fitness workout, along with me teaching her last week how to do Bone Density Lat Pulls for bone strength and heart health. Berei began doing T-Tapp at age 73 and within 90 days she gained an inch in height and lost 21 inches all over her body and has continued to look and feel better each year by only doing T-Tapp workouts. Rather than slowing down, she's been more active, filming several new workouts and demonstrating on TV what exercises she does to keep her brain, body and bones fit. Here are three of her most recent TV appearances: WTSP interview, lat hops and the arm curl exercise.
Bone density has always been a concern for Berei. At age 73 she had already been on osteoporosis medication for 25 years, along with taking cholesterol and blood pressure medications. By the time she starting working out with Teresa in preparation to film the Senior Fit workout, at age 85, Berei no longer needed to take the cholesterol or blood pressure medications. Her personal physician, Dr. Brent Agin, believed that the T-Tapp Method of full fiber tug could continue to improve Berei's bone health to the point that her condition might become classified as osteopenia instead of osteoporosis. Well, it happened!
From age 86 to 88, Berei did 3-4 Senior Fit workouts per week and took an osteoporosis drug called "Forteo", as well a liquid magnesium (ReMag) and liquid minerals (ReMyte) from Carolyn Dean ND, MD. At age 88. her Dexa bone scan verified an increase of 18.1% bone density in her lower spine (L1-L4) along with 1% in the neck of her left hip joint.
Then from age 88 to 90, Berei did a variety of First Step workouts (First Step 1+2, First Step 3+4, First Step 5+6 and First Step Fascia Fitness) 3-4 times each week, but since she was unable to take any osteoporosis medication or ReMag, Dr. Agin was concerned that she might lose some of the bone density she gained in her lower spine. WELL... in addition to maintaining the 18.1% increase, her Dexa scan verified that the bone density of her spine INCREASED another 2.7% along with her left hip joint! Dr. Agin was thrilled to tell Berei that the diagnosis of her spine is no longer classified as osteoporosis and her left hip joint/femur has been downgraded to osteopenia.
How can that be?
I believe that the extra focus on muscle and fascia activation woven within every exercise as taught in Senior Fit and all of the First Step Workouts significantly stimulated her bones to produce new bone cells. In fact, ALL T-Tapp workouts, with focus on maintaining full fiber tension of multiple muscles during movement, along with body alignment, not only slow bone loss, but stimulate new growth. As long as you go to your personal best, you WILL receive results.
Basically all T-Tapp workouts become more challenging because your body progressively gets stronger so you can hold the full fiber tension longer during movement, be able to stretch even further and have the heart health for greater oxygenation and endurance.
Are medications bad?
Well, not always. It is important to work with your physician, like Berei did. Although she no longer could take Forteo, her physician (as well as her) was concerned about the other osteoporosis drugs available not being good for her so that's why Berei didn't take any. Then at age 89 Dr. Agin determined, after blood work, that Berei's thyroid could benefit from taking 30mg of Armour and take 10 mg of Lisinopril for her blood pressure which was starting to go up again. Personally I think it is AWESOME that Berei only needs to take two medications! National statistics show that by the time a person reaches 50 years, they take an average of 5 medications.
Are supplements necessary?
Well, that depends: do you consume chemical calories --- consume more man made foods instead of God made --- have health issues --- take medications --- have excess stress --- have allergies --- have a lot of weight to lose --- are past menopause --- etc, etc, etc ---so many things to consider!
For example: from age 86 to 88 Berei was taking LOTS of supplements and shakes, but from age 88 to 90 she took 60% less (she no longer took ReMag due to magnesium sensitivity) and her bones got better! Then there is Lisa Miller, who also was unable to take any supplements due to health issues, but her skin was still able to tighten and tone after losing 100 lbs. But for 2 years, Lisa did a T-Tapp workout every day and body brushed twice a day. Plus, in addition to being gluten free, she eats a very clean diet.
The majority of people seem to focus on supplements and diet to increase health or decrease weight. Personally I take a lot of supplements and have done so for many years, BUT I think MOVEMENT is the missing piece for many people to look and feel their best.
As we approach another 60-Day Challenge I want to encourage everyone to tune into how you FEEL and try to do at least 3 T-Tapp moves per day....even if that means "thumbs away and pulling up on the handle of your grocery cart" while pushing it through the store or "pushing your feet into the floor" and holding it as long as you can each hour while working at your computer or doing two sets of Hoe Downs 3 times a day .... it CAN make a difference! So GOOD LUCK, have FUN and be HAPPY!
